Offered as part of the GEM PhD School on "Globalisation, Europe, and Multilateralism, this specific Political Science doctoral fellowship is one of 16 positions across different disciplines set to work together to assess the EU’s capacity to act given the challenges facing Democratic Institutions, the rise of Alternative MOdels, and mounting Normative Dissensus (DIAMOND).

This position involves an Individual Research Project entitled: the politics of the untidy right – illiberal democracy as a contagious concept. The fellow will examine how populist radical right parties across Europe are challenging liberal democratic institutions. The research will be done under the co-supervision of Prof. Sarah De Lange (UvA, Amsterdam) and Prof. Nathalie Brack (ULB, Brussels).
This is an MSCA doctoral fellowship funded by the EU which includes: (i) a three-year full-time salary (48k/year), (ii) a double doctoral degree from UvA & ULB, (iii) joint training and publications opportunities, (iv) sponsored mobility involving at least two countries, and (v) a non-academic internship at the German Marshall Fund.
