Digital Engagement Officer (Azeri Speaker)

The SecDev Foundation is looking for a highly motivated and creative Digital Engagement Officer who is fluent in written and spoken Azeriand based outside Azerbaijan, to join our flagship CyberSTAR project. If selected, you will be an integral part of a program designed to offer cutting-edge digital safety support for high-risk independent media and civil society organizations across the former Soviet Union.


As Digital Engagement Officer, you will work closely with the rest of the CyberSTAR team to deliver critical digital safety information and resources to the individuals and organizations that need them.


Key skills required

  • Fluency in written and spoken Azeri, with a working knowledge of English;
  • Strong social media skills, including social media analytics;
  • Clear online communication skills, and an ability to create simplified content on IT-related matters for non-technical audiences;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Strong self-organization with a proven ability to set and meet realistic deadlines; 
  • Strong interest in and understanding of events and developments in Central Eurasia, with a particular focus on Azerbaijan.


What would make you extraordinary

  • Proven success with social media campaigns and/or writing for the web;
  • Direct professional experience of digital safety and work with civil society organizations;
  • A working knowledge of Russian;
  • A university degree in a relevant field.


What you will do


Web and social media

  • Help manage the project’s website and social media channels in Azeri, including daily posting and updating content on a regular basis;
  • Help monitor, moderate and respond to social media comments and questions, seeking, where necessary, advice from subject matter experts;
  • Help gather and compile user data and produce analytical web and social media reports that will help to improve content uptake and engagement.


Content development

  • Help develop content for the project’s website and social media, including digital safety campaigns, how-to guides and alerts;
  • Help repurpose the existing content for the Azeri-speaking audiences by revising materials and ensuring that they are appropriate for the audience.


Outreach and partnerships

  • Undertake ongoing mapping of potential online partners;
  • Carry out specific research tasks to profile potential partners.


Web content management 

  • Help to manage the content of the CyberSTAR website, including updates and curation.


Research and media monitoring

  • Daily monitoring of Azerbaijan and other central Eurasian countries’ cyber threat/risk environment and other project relevant topics.



  • Contribute to analytical reports on the digital threat environment affecting people in the region.


Other duties

  • Translate project documents, content and reports as required;
  • Working closely with team members, contribute to overall strategic vision and excellence of delivery for the CyberSTAR project as a whole;
  • Contribute new and innovative ideas for how we can continually enhance our support to beneficiaries;
  • Perform any other duties as required.


Other details

  • Contract type: part-time with the potential for full-time;
  • Term: 6 months with strong possibility for renewal;
  • Remote, based anywhere in the world except Azerbaijan.
