Applicants must be a certified instructor of a professional working dog program, or the handler of a federal, state, national, or international certified K9 from the police, military, government agency, professional detection, or SAR field. Members of the APDT Board of Directors and the APDT Foundation Board of Trustees are not eligible. The APDT Foundation will maintain a listing of all scholarship awardees.

Selection

The APDT Foundation Scholarship Task Force will use the scholarship application form to select the winning applicant. Applications will be scored based on the following criteria:
• Content, completeness, and thoroughness of answers to application questions.
• Extent of participation and dedication to working dog activities, education, and
mentorship.
• Evidence of certification and being a member of a working dog department, program, agency, or team.

The total score will be used to determine the award status. One scholarship is available in 2020. The APDT Foundation Scholarship Task Force will notify the President of the APDT Foundation Board of Directors and the APDT Executive Office of scholarship recipient. The APDT Foundation will notify the scholarship recipient (and other applicants) in writing no later than June 22, 2020.
